Spring Cleaning

Not too long ago I posted about how badly my office needed cleaned and organized. Do you think it's done? Ha! Hardly! I went through a bunch of papers on the desk and put them into piles and that's about as far as I've gotten. I haven't been particularly busy or anything, but I've just been spent. My get up and go, has gotten up and went. I've been feeling down about my grandpa the past few weeks.

Just today I fed Boston and said to myself "Self, just DO SOMETHING!" So I did. I vacuumed. We have a bagless vacuum and thank goodness for that because the garbage can had about 25 puppies in it. There is SO.MUCH.DOG.HAIR.IN.THIS.HOUSE!!! I'm constantly picking dog hair off of Boston and his clothes and blankets. Out of his mouth even! Ugh! I gave Judy a bath a few weeks ago. Walters bath is still pending. Ryan and I tried for about an hour one night to get him in the tub. We got him in a few times, but he'd struggle right back out. I don't know what his deal is! Once he's in the bath and getting scrubbed he loves it, but he always makes a huge production out of getting in. I've been brushing both dogs daily and that seems to be helping with the shedding. I don't know if this is a weird year and they're shedding more, or if I just never really noticed how bad it was before? Weird.

Another thing I want to get to very soon is raking the yard. Not just the leaves, oh no, I have lots of dog poop to rake up too. It's seriously a dog poop graveyard in the back side yard. So gross! I have all sorts of cleaning, purging and organizing plans to fill my weekend. Let's just see if I can actually find the motivation that seems to be hiding from me lately.

Our First Week

This past week flew by so fast. I never expected I'd be getting so much sleep! I'm getting more sleep now than I have in the last 10 months for sure. He sleeps through the night and I had to wake him up for feedings and changing. Last night for the first time, he woke up on his own around 4:00 AM. He wasn't crying, I just heard him singing and cooing, so I figured he must be hungry and boy was he! He slept again till almost 11 AM and was so hungry again. Funny boy! I couldn't have asked for a more perfect little man, God did good! I feel so blessed every time I look at him. Just knowing he is mine is an amazing feeling.

I spent the past week or so cleaning, doing laundry and being spoiled by Ryan. He's so good about bringing me what I need when I need it. He's gotten up many times in the middle of the night to get me water and make a middle of the night breakfast. He rocked that crib out, and has made us dinner every night (well, really he's made dinner every night for the last 10 months give or take a time here and there when I felt up to it). He works hard to provide for his family and I am so grateful for him. I can't wait (well I can) to start bringing in some money again too. Not that we need it at all, I just like to feel I'm contributing. Plus our savings can keep growing, growing, growing if I'm bringing it a bit of an income.

Here are a few pictures showing how much fun we all had this week:

Curtains Part 2: Adventures in Elephant Application

As you've probably seen in earlier posts, my generous mother-in-law has taken on a lot of my sewing projects for me. She hemmed the curtains for me and I hung them (without the elephants added) and I LOVE how they look in the room!

Please ignore all the power tools, this was taken last week when the room wasn't as put together.

Some people might look at this picture and say 'what the heck? Why are they sooooo far away from the window? They are basically touching the ceiling!' Observant! If you google how to hang curtains to make a room look bigger, it says to hang them high and wide. By hanging them wide, it makes the window appear so much bigger. I want to allow as much light as I possibly can into the room. The ONE good thing about the mirrored closet doors (see I guess since I have to live with them for awhile I'll spend some time looking for at least one redeeming quality in them) is they are awesome at bouncing the light all around--making for a very bright bedroom! With the room being so small, I'll do anything I can to make it feel not so cavernous! Hanging them high makes the room appear taller. I'm sure some might say that floor length curtains in a nursery is a ridiculous choice, but I'm happy with it. Since I'm totally trying to break the matchy-matchy nursery mold in this room, the last thing I wanted was a generic valance. Not that there's anything wrong with matchy-matchy or bed-in-a-bag-decor nurseries. There are some really cute themes out there. It's just not what I wanted when I envisioned this space. Half the fun for me in this whole thing is hand picking every piece of fabric, every toy, every book, everything really.

So far all I've done is make the elephant template and make a sample elephant on a scrap that was left over after hemming. I have to say it turned out pretty nice! I was afraid the ink coverage would be cloudy, but it's pretty solid. Though it's pretty easy to apply an elephant, it's kind of time consuming, so this is going to take me awhile. I hope to have the finished product very soon!

Judy was just dying to get her Fiddler on the Roof on. Okay, maybe that was me, not her.
